The end is nigh for Calgary’s Eau Claire Market, as the mall is set to close its doors for good on May 31 of this year.

The announcement was made by Harvard Developments on March 4, citing the decades of operations by the mall and its place in Calgary’s retail scene.

“As we prepare to bid farewell to Eau Claire Market, we look to the future with optimism and excitement. When one door closes, another opens, and we are excited to see a new chapter that holds tremendous opportunity for the revitalization and growth of downtown Calgary,” wrote Matt Geiger, Manager of Marketing and Communications for Harvard Developments.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to our past and current retailers of Eau Claire Market, all of whom brought their own special flavour and character to the market over the years. We hope the community continues to support these independent retailers as they embark on new adventures beyond the walls of Eau Claire Market.”

The mall is being handed over to the City of Calgary on June 1, for development of the Green Line.

The Eau Claire locations of JOEY Restaurants and Local Public Eatery, along with a section of the south surface parking lot will remain open for operations.

Harvard said that they would be holding a celebration on May 11, for Calgarians to gather one last time at Eau Claire Market.

“Lastly, to the citizens of Calgary, we want to take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude to you for your unwavering support. You have made Eau Claire Market a special place filled with warmth, laughter, and unforgettable moments,” said Geiger.
