Two people have died after a fire in southwest Calgary early Sunday evening.

Calgary firefighters responded to the 700 block of Seymour Avenue SW around 5 p.m. Sunday for reports of a structure fire.

When they arrived, smoke was visibly coming from the home. According to fire officials, they initiated an interior attack and search inside the home. Inside, they found a man in the rear of the home and he was removed.

A woman was found in the front of the home and also removed. Firefighters began CPR before transferring care to paramedics. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man was taken to the hospital by AHS, and they didn’t know the patient’s status when their information was released.

Calgary police have since confirmed to LWC that the male in the home died. The victims are a woman in her 90s and her son, who was in his 60s, police said.

There were no other injuries, according to fire officials.

Fire investigators, along with the Calgary police Arson Unit were on scene to determine the cause and to ensure that the fire was fully put out. The fire has since been deemed “unsuspicious,” police said.

Anyone with information or video of the fire can send it to piofire@calgary.ca or Calgary the Calgary police non-emergency line at 403-266-1234.
