Calgary’s New Year’s Eve fireworks will be moving north from their traditional home at the Calgary Tower to Prince’s Island Park.

The fireworks will be launched from the park, synced to music from CJSW, starting at 11:55 p.m. on Dec. 31.

The City of Calgary will also be live-streaming the fireworks on calgary.ca/NYE.

“Join me in welcoming the New Year by watching the captivating fireworks in person or through the livestream. There are great things on the horizon,” said Mayor Jyoti Gondek.

The City said that there will be some road closures in Crescent Heights on New Year’s Eve, with Crescent Road NW from 4 Street NW to 1 Street NW being closed from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Jan. 1.

Calgarians are being encouraged to take transit to visit the island and to help everyone get home safely from NYE celebrations. The CTrains will be running on extended hours until 4 a.m. on Jan. 1, and major bus lines will be running until 3 a.m.

A full listing of those route extensions is available at calgarytransit.com.

For Calgarians looking to get a little bit of extra fun in before the fireworks, skating hours at Olympic Plaza—a favourite NYE celebration activity for many in the city—will be extended to midnight.
