Calgary police are looking for CCTV or dashcam footage after a fatal drive-by shooting in the Beltline Thursday night.

Around 9:10 p.m. on Nov. 30, Calgary police were alerted to gunfire in the 600 block of 10 Avenue SW. When officers arrived, they found a victim who had died of apparent gunshot wounds.

Surveillance footage captured the victim walking westbound on 10 Avenue SW towards 6 Street. A dark-colored SUV approached, from which an occupant fired multiple shots at the victim before speeding away. The fleeing vehicle was last observed traveling southbound on 6 Street SW and then turning westbound onto 13 Avenue SW, according to police.

“This volatile incident showed a blatant disregard for human life and jeopardized the safety of bystanders,” said Det. Lee Treit of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit, in a prepared media release.

“Video footage and witnesses are vital for us to hold the offenders in this brazen attack accountable, and we are asking for anyone with information to come forward,” Det. Lee Treit of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit.

After an autopsy conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Friday, December 1, 2023, the victim—a 40-year-old man—has been identified. Not believed to be from Calgary, he has connections to Vancouver, B.C., Edmonton, Alta., and Halifax, N.S.

The victim was identified as Thane Cameron Clayton, 40. Calgary police are asking anyone with recent contact with Cameron to please contact them.

At this time, police don’t know if this was a targeted attack.

Anyone with information is asked to call Calgary police at 403-266-1234.
