Although the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth officially begins on July 7, Calgarians can get a taste of the Calgary Stampede starting on Thursday morning.

First Flip begins on July 6 at 7:30 a.m., and runs until 10:30 a.m. on Stephen Avenue between 1 Street SE and Centre Street.

The annual event of all things pancakes has been attended in past years by Alberta’s Premier, the Mayor of Calgary, and politicians of all stripes.

This year represents a milestone for pancake breakfasts at the Stampede, marking a century of hotcakes at community events. The annual tradition was thought up by a local rancher who wanted to promote chuckwagon racing, which is also celebrating it’s centennial this year.

Sneak-a-peek starts at 5 p.m., with half-price tickets for visitors taking in the grounds—and the dozens of activities across all of the Stampede venues.
