Calgary police are hoping the public can help with dashcam footage of an impaired driver from Christmas Eve.

On December 24 between 11:40 a.m. and 12:05 p.m., Calgary police were called with several reports of a vehicle driving dangerously, including a hit-and-run, in southeast Calgary.

The vehicle was described as a white Chevy Express van, licence plate BTY 8991, and was travelling southbound on 24 Street SE to northbound Deerfoot Trail. Then it went westbound on Anderson Road to northbound Bonaventure Drive SE where police tried a traffic stop.

The vehicle failed to stop for police and continued driving northbound going through intersections at 109 Avenue and Fairmont Drive SE, according to police.

The van finally stopped at Willow Park Drive SE. The driver was taken into custody and charges are pending, police said.

“The holidays are a time to be with family and friends,” said Staff Sergeant Mark Auger of the Calgary Police Service General Investigations Unit.

“The reckless actions of individuals who drive impaired could very well have taken the life of someone’s loved one. We are thankful no one was injured, but we would like to remind all Calgarians not to drink and drive.”

Anyone with information on this, or with dashcam footage, please call the Calgary police at 403-266-1234.
