Calgary police say one person is in custody and charges are pending after a fatal crash on Deerfoot Trail early Friday.

Calgary police and first responders were called to a two-vehicle crash in the southbound lanes of Deerfoot Trail around 32 Avenue at 3:15 a.m. Friday.   Both southbound and northbound lanes of Deerfoot between 16 Avenue and 32 Avenue N were closed for several due to an investigation.

Both roadways have since opened, Calgary police said.

Calgary police said that a 2009 Ford F-150 pickup, driven by a 29-year-old man was travelling northbound in the southbound lanes of Deerfoot Trail when it hit a southbound vehicle head on.

The driver of the southbound vehicle died at the scene, police said.

The pickup driver was taken into custody and charges are pending. According to police, speed and alcohol are considered factors in the crash.
