Calgary Stampede Day 6: Recap, rodeo and Thursday entertainment

The kids were successfully able to drag mom and dad down to the Calgary Stampede grounds for another round of fun at the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.

We’re winding down to the final weekend, but there’s still a lot of time to get down to the Calgary Stampede to take in the action.

Wednesday was BMO Kids’ Day, and that drew a fine crowd. Yesterday’s attendance was 114,530, bringing the total 2022 draw to 762,410.  It helped that Wednesday’s temperature was pushing 30 Celsius and there was a fine breeze on the grounds.

Day Six at the rodeo (photos below) brought us the Wild Pony Race, which is always a blast. Three of six teams managed to hop aboard their ponies. (Rodeo results here.)

The Cowboys Rangeland Derby saw Chanse Vigen run a blistering 1:12.88 to capture the $6,000 day money.  But, after six nights, it’s Layne MacGillivray who’s leading the cumulative run time. (Results can be found here.)

There’s a lot of action at the Stampede Grounds Thursday – especially on the entertainment side of things.

Lindsay Ell hits Nashville North tonight and Carly Rae Jepsen will be on the Coca-Cola Stage at 9 p.m.  The Cowboy Up challenge starts at 11:30 a.m. in the Nutrien Western Event Centre.

It’s time to start planning your weekend fun at the Stampede, because, in four days, we’ll be waiting another year for our 10-day celebration to wind up once again.
