A man has been charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of a woman Friday.

Around 6:40 a.m. on March 18, Calgary police were called to the 100 block of 10 Avenue SE after reports of an assault.

When they arrived, they found an unconscious woman in her 30s (police originally reported as 20s). According to police, she died shortly afterward despite the efforts of first responders.

The area around the scene was initially closed off to traffic. Later, police opened the area to traffic but kept the sidewalk closed. Now the scene has been released, police said.

Police were looking for a man they believed had information on the incident. That man later came forward, police said. At this time they believe he had no connection to the death.

Michael John Adenyi, 26, has been charged with first-degree murder. He will next appear in court on Monday, Mar. 22, 2022.

Police don’t know the nature of the relationship with the victim.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Calgary Police Service at 40-266-1234.
