The thunder of the Rangeland Derby will once again be at this year’s Calgary Stampede.

After cancellation in 2021 due to ongoing Covid-19 health measures, the chuckwagons will make their return at the 2022 Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.

They said at the end of last year’s Stampede that their intent was to bring back the chucks for 2022.

The Calgary Stampede confirmed the news to LiveWire Calgary and have posted additional information on their website.

“In addition, as part of the Stampede’s commitment to Chuckwagon racing, we have determined we will host a Canvas Auction this spring to support drivers in attracting advertiser revenue,” said Kristina Barnes with the Stampede.

Twenty-seven chuckwagon drivers and their outriders will once again join the evening entertainment. The races will go ahead nightly at 7:45 p.m. The Bell Grandstand Show will follow after the races conclude.

Last year, the Calgary Stampede put in enhanced public health entry measures during Covid-19.

At this point in time, there are capacity limits in place for larger venues, but it’s expected those will be rescinded as the province rolls back pandemic restrictions.
