Where to commemorate Remembrance Day in Calgary

Calgarians wishing to commemorate and honour members of Canada’s Armed Forces killed in conflicts worldwide will be able to do so in-person or virtually tomorrow.

Not all events previously open to the public are able to accommodate unregistered participants this year. People wishing to attend ceremonies are advised to check with event organizers before traveling.

Virtual Events

Field of Crosses

This year the Field of Crosses Remembrance Day commemorations will be limited to registered participants only. The public is invited to watch the live stream on Global Calgary. There will be no public access to the site following the ceremonies.

The Hangar Flight Museum

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there are no in-person events scheduled for Remembrance Day at the museum. Services will be broadcast and live streamed on CTV Calgary starting at 10:30 a.m.

Kerby Centre

The Kerby Centre will be holding its Remembrance Day service online this year. Live streaming begins at 10:30 a.m. People wishing to view the service can pre-register on Eventbrite.

Citywide

Royal Canadian Air Force

RCAF flypasts will be performed over Calgary’s Remembrance Day ceremonies weather and safety permitting.

Northwest Calgary

Rocky Ridge Retirement Community by Signature

10715 Rocky Ridge Boulevard NW

Remembrance Day ceremonies begin at 10:45 a.m. and will conclude at 11:45 a.m.

Southwest Calgary

The Military Museums

4520 Crowchild Trail SW

Remembrance Day ceremonies begin at 10 a.m. with the arrival of VIPs and dignitaries. The event will conclude with the laying of wreaths at 11:05 a.m. Despite being an outdoor event, attendees must show proof of double vaccination as per the Department of Defence. The ceremonies will also be live streamed on The Military Museums Facebook page.

Royal Canadian Legion – Centennial Calgary Branch #285

9202 Horton Road SW

Members of the Legion are asked to lay their wreaths prior to 9:30 a.m. The Remembrance Day service will take place from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. Attendees must wear a mask and show proof of double vaccination to enter the branch.

Southeast Calgary

Fort Calgary

750 – 9 Avenue SE

Doors to the Remembrance Day service will open at 10:15 a.m. and the service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Space is limited and pre-registering for the service is required.

Union Cemetery

Spiller Road and Cemetery Road SE

Calgary Parks will be providing tours of the historic Union Cemetery starting at 2 p.m. Volunteers will guide participants through the cemetery to learn about the military history of Calgary focusing on the First and Second World Wars. Tours start at the Galloway House.
