POLL: Calgary snowplow names… but not Plowy McPlowface

The City of Calgary is asking kids from Kindergarten to Grade 9 to help them come up with names for Calgary’s fleet of snowplows.

Of course, city snowplows clear the snow and (hopefully) the ice from Calgary roads during the winter months.

“The City of Calgary’s snow fleet is an important part of our snow response,” said Chris McGeachy, spokesperson for The City of Calgary.

“Winter is a big part of what makes our city so special, and giving each of our plows a name is a fun way to highlight some of the work that goes into keeping our city moving during those winter days.”

The snowplow naming has been a successful program run in other locations like Minnesota and in Scotland. Yes, Plowy McPlowface is one of those names.

To enter, Calgary parents, students and teachers can visit the city’s website. They’ll find more information on snow removal, the snowplows and have some fun with the entry and a snowplow colouring sheet.

Since that contest is limited to the kids, we’ve put together a poll of some of the names that have already been submitted to us. And no, we didn’t include Plowy McPlowface. (C’mon Calgary, you can be original!)
