Ward Zero – Episode 15: TPAs, Four-year tax freeze, gender diversity

In episode 15 of the Ward Zero podcast, co-host Esmahan Razavi helps tee things up as she, Jeremy Zhao and LiveWire Calgary editor Darren Krause tackle a handful of topics.

We’ve shortened the episode and will increase the frequency leading up to the Oct. 18 municipal election so you have up-to-date information and analysis prior to casting your vote.

The trio once again looks at the Jeff Davison and Calgary Tomorrow connection, and if this issue is on voters’ minds, or just those of political reporters and commentators.

Darren breaks down a plan by mayoral contender Jeromy Farkas that calls for a four-year property tax freeze and what it actually could mean for Calgarians. But, Zhao counters that maybe there are ways to cut to allow property taxes to remain stable.

Esmahan tackles the issue of gender diversity after a Calgary Herald piece by Jason Herring on the number of women running in this Calgary election. But, Darren brings up that in this case the quality might make up for the quantity and there could still be more women on Calgary city council come Oct. 18.

They finish up with some informative quick hits, including a recap of candidates in Wards 1 to 3.

Enjoy the show!
