Third-party advertisers (TPAs) have emerged to play a more prominent role in Calgary’s 2021 municipal election.

A third-party advertiser is allowed to solicit donations under Alberta’s Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA) but must be publicly registered prior to the Oct. 18 municipal election. These groups can advertise during an election period for any candidate or issue that appears on the ballot.

We’ve written a number of pieces on the influence of third-party advertisers in the upcoming election. Given the potential impact, we figured that the more you know about them – and the candidates they support, the better.

As a part of that, we wanted to keep a running list of support being provided (either through public endorsements or advertising/fundraising) to keep you up to date.

(Where possible we’ve linked to our candidate profile on the endorsed candidates.)

  1. I would have to venture that these endorsements do not mean anything and that the outcomes were preset from the start. There are a some PACs listed that have not reached out to many candidates yet they have already made their endorsements; despite claims on their mandates to interview and use questionnaires to choose their candidates. So yeah, this is just more cronyism in my opinion.
