A sign that summer really is coming to a close, the Labour Day long weekend is upon us.
To complicate things a smidge, there’s multiple road closures and changes to Calgary Transit hours you’re going to want to be aware of if you’re out and about this weekend.
Here’s a breakdown of what’s going on this Labour Day weekend in Calgary:
Calgary Transit
Calgary Transit will be operating on a Sunday-level service on Labour Day Monday. Over the entire long weekend the Red Line will have closures from City Hall to Chinook and from Fish Creek to Lacombe.
Many schedules will also be revised as part of Calgary Transit’s Fall Service Changes. You can check out those changes here.
Parking
On-street parking is free in ParkPlus zones on Labour Day. Holiday rates will be in effect in select Calgary Parking Authority surface lots and parkades. You can check out those locations here.
Road Closures
Due to the Shaw Charity Classic, 14 Street SW from Anderson Road to the intersection of Canyon Meadows Drive and Elbow Drive will be closed from Aug. 30 to Sept. 1.
There are also multiple road closures in the downtown core on Sunday Sept. 1 due to the Calgary Pride Parade. Details on those closures can be found here.
Crowchild Trail will be reduced to single lanes in multiple sections for most of the weekend. From 10 p.m. Aug. 30 to 5 a.m. Aug. 31 there will be full closure of the southbound Crowchild Trail to 12 Avenue SW east ramp.
Glenmore Trail will also be reduced to single lanes near Crowchild Trail for most of the weekend.
Facility Closures
All City of Calgary administrative buildings, including City Hall, will be closed on Labour Day. All pools (except Village Square Leisure Centre), athletic parks, arenas and the Calgary Soccer centre will be closed as well.
