This year’s Calgary Women’s March will take the next step in helping women across the city with the launch of a new fundraising effort.

In conjunction with this year’s march, the group launched the We for She YYC community impact fund in cooperation with the United Way Calgary. It’s expected the fund will help provide funds for more than 20 local charities focused on women’s issues.

The United Way will administer the funds and all of it will be distributed among the recipients.

“We wanted to give people the opportunity to take action,” said Esmahan Razavi, Women March On: Calgary co-lead.

“By donating to the We for She YYC fund, they will be supporting organizations across our city that are on the frontlines of fighting against gender inequality.”

Calgarians are able to make donations to the fund through the United Way’s website until International Women’s Day, March 8. The site currently shows a $5,000 goal.

“We are incredibly proud to be supporting the Women’s March because we value equality, community spirit and creating a city where every person is included and feels connected. I feel we all have a role to play in doing local good, and addressing the unignorable issues in our community – in particular issues like domestic violence, the theme of this year’s march,” said Beth Gignac, COO United Way Calgary, in a prepared release.

Calgary’s Women’s March will be held Jan. 19 outside Bankers Hall, 315 – 8 Avenue SW. It begins at noon.
