CARONPORT, SASK., (Oct. 12, 2018) — The SAIT Trojans men’s basketball team scored 65 points in the first half. Talk about making a statement in their first game of the season.

The Trojans had six players scored double digit points, as they cruised to a 97-76 victory over the host Briercrest College Clippers Friday night in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) season-opening game played in Caronport, Sask.

“Our defense was aggressive. We forced a lot of turnovers tonight,” said Trojans head coach Marty Birky. “Those turned into easy scores for us.”

In fact, his team forced 18 Briercrest turnovers in the opening half – 33 for the game.

“With our pace, it wears you down. The next thing you know, we go on a 10-0 run,” Birky said.

SAIT moves to 1-0 on the year. Briercrest falls to 0-1.

Ian Tevis (5th year, Kent, Wash., Office Professional) led the Trojans with 22 points and six steals, while teammate Enoque Michel (1st year, Montreal, Que., Graphic Communications and Print Technology) added 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Brolin Simes led the Clippers with 18 points.

The Trojans will play their second road game of the weekend Saturday night when they meet the Lethbridge College Kodiaks. Tip-off is at 8pm.
