Three seasoned political campaign strategists will be providing Alberta women with the tools they need to run a successful campaign should they decide to run in the upcoming 2019 Alberta provincial election.

Alberta’s Equal Voice is hosting the free afternoon event Sept. 8 between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the Women’s Centre of Calgary.

The event will see strategists from across the political spectrum at the event. Alberta UCP president Erica Barootes will be there, along with former NDP strategist Sally Housser, and Zain Velji, who’s worked on the Obama, Nenshi and Kennedy-Glans campaign, among others.

“It was important to us to have representation from across the political spectrum and we are so pleased to host these three campaign strategists,” said Lisa Skierka, Chair, Equal Voice Alberta South.

“We look forward to the unique insights they will share and hope that the potential candidates in the room can use what they learn to craft winning campaigns of their own.”

The workshop is geared towards any woman planning to run in the 2019 provincial election, regardless of party affiliation.

Not only is it meant to provide a playbook for potential candidates, it’s a good opportunity for those looking to take a leadership role in running a campaign, according to co-campaign lead, Esmahan Razavi.

“Too often, we see a lack of women in senior campaign positions. This creates a deficit in the knowledge and connections needed to win a campaign. Our hope is that a session like this, with some of the best campaign strategists around, will help remedy this,” Razavi said.

It’s the second time the group has run their #campaign101 program.

The event is free, but space is limited. For more info and to secure a spot go to https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/campaign101-workshop-how-to-win-a-campaign-tickets-49055630712
