 will be walking the red carpet at 6:30 p.m. for CIFF's closing film LUCKY 
 STAR.\n\nWhen reformed gambler Lucky (Terry Chen\, FALLING\, CIFF2020) fal
 ls victim to a tax scam\, he returns to playing poker to make the money ba
 ck. Meanwhile\, his family tries to make ends meet by resorting to their o
 wn morally dubious strategies. LUCKY STAR is a family drama about fatherly
  love\, deceit\, and redemption\, and a slice of life of the Chinese-prair
 ie diaspora.\n\nCalgary writer/director Gillian McKercher’s first featur
 e film\, CIRCLE OF STEEL\, won an Audience Award at CIFF 2018. We’re exc
 ited to be showcasing their sophomore feature LUCKY STAR\, which was devel
 oped while a resident at the Canadian Film Centre.
