Updated: One dead after downtown Calgary assault

The Calgary police Homicide Unit is investigating a woman’s death after an assault in the downtown Sunday afternoon.

Around 4 p.m. Sunday, officers were called to the 1100 block of 6 Avenue SW after a report of an assault. When they arrived, there were two women with injuries.

Both were transported to hospital, and as of Monday, one victim remained in hospital in stable condition.

According to police, one woman had minor injuries, while the other was in critical condition. That woman died of her injuries shortly after, police said.

A man was taken into custody at the scene. John Patrick Bon Harder, 32, was charged by Calgary Police with one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.

The victim was identified on Monday as Sol Harder, 60, of Calgary. She was the mother of John Harder.

Police said that the homicide had been a result of domestic related incident.

“The identity of the of the homicide victim has been confirmed through investigative measures and is being released due to the relationship to the accused and in an attempt to further garner information from the public relevant to the investigation,” said CPS.
