Investigators with the Calgary Police Service have arrested multiple individuals in relation to a August 2022 shooting in the East Village, and the December 2022 homicide of Ashley Mawdsley.
Mawdsley’s death was the 25th homicide of that year.
The August shooting occurred in the parkade of the Real Canadian Superstore and Winners, located in the RioCan shopping mall at 428 – 6 Avenue SE.
“Despite both shootings being targeted, these offenders demonstrated a complete disregard for public safety and placed members of our community at risk of serious harm or death,” said Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit.
“Both of these shootings occurred at times when people were going about their daily routines.”
Police said that while investigating both targeted shootings, they identified individuals with connections to organized crime as being responsible.
The names of those accused of those crimes have not yet been revealed, as charges are pending.
“The victimization of Calgarians caused by organized crime violence can have a devastating and lasting impact on innocent bystanders and the community as a whole,” said SSgt. Schiavetta.
The service said that addressing gun violence in Calgary continues to be a priority, but those efforts requires strong community connections and the support of the public.
“We are asking anyone with information to come forward,” said CPS.
Anyone with information related to either shooting is asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or submit tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
