Weeks before starting play in their inaugural season, the Calgary Surge have announced their official title partner for the next two seasons.
Calgary-based Zeno Renewables will be the title partner for Canadian Elite Basketball League’s Calgary Surge. The two-year deal was announced Wednesday.
The Surge begin play in their first Calgary season starting in May. The team relocated from Guelph last fall.
Zeno is a company that provides sustainable energy solutions for homes, including solar options. Co-CEOs Kai Fahrion and Gursh Bal have an ambitious plan to install solar solutions on one million homes by 2040.
Calgary Surge Vice-Chairman and President Jason Ribeiro said that together, the Surge and Zeno want to build a more vibrant, inclusive and sustainable Calgary.
“We are proud to welcome Kai Fahrion, Gursh Bal, and all of Zeno Renewables into the Calgary Surge family as our official title partner for the next two seasons,” Ribeiro said in a prepared release.
“At our launch event in October, I asked our city’s leading entrepreneurs and executives to think about which company names would appear on screens as Surge games are broadcast across the nation. Zeno answered that call.”
Next step forward for Zeno
Bal said they’re committed to the community and to making a global energy impact. The company employs 100 Albertans. He said this is the next step in the company’s growth.
“I can’t wait to take my family to a Surge game and show Calgarians what Zeno and the Surge can accomplish together,” he said.
Fahrion said having professional basketball in Calgary offers a unique opportunity to create a sense of belonging and to build a unified city.
“Both Zeno and the Surge have a strong alignment in values. From day one, the Surge have been committed to community and this is something we also deeply value at Zeno,” said Fahrion.
The Zeno logo will appear on team jersey kits, and the company will have a game-day presence at the Winsport Event Centre. The Surge and Zeno will also partner and support each other’s community initiatives.
Earlier this year, the Surge announced the hiring of the team’s first GM, Shane James. They also announced the addition of senior advisor Steve Konchalski.
The team will be hosting a free, kid-friendly community event on March 2. You can visit the team’s events page to sign up. The team’s schedule has also been released, with a home opener against the Edmonton Stingers. Get your tickets here.
