One person is dead and another seriously injured after a suspected targeted shooting in a northwest Calgary community early Jan. 1.
Calgary police responded to a call of shots fired in the 6900 block of Ranchero Road NW in the community of Ranchlands around 3:40 a.m. New Year’s Day.
When they arrived, they found two men that had been shot. One later died at the scene. The other was transported to the hospital.
Homicide detectives are still at the scene gathering CCTV footage and information from witnesses, police said.
An autopsy will be done later this week.

If it’s a confirmed homicide, it would be Calgary’s first of 2023.
