Two people die in Harvest Hills garage fire

Two people have died after northeast Calgary attached garage caught fire early Saturday morning.

Calgary firefighters were called to a home on Harvest Oak Close for reports of a structure fire around 1:20 a.m. on Sept. 10.

When crews arrived, they saw smoke coming from the attached garage on the first floor of a multi-family residence. Firefighters were met on scene by onlookers who directed them to the scene, fire officials said.

Firefighters located the fire in the attached garage and contained the fire to that area. When they searched the premises, fire officials said two adults were found. They were removed from the garage and they were declared dead at the scene.

One other adult and two children managed to escape the fire uninjured, fire officials said.

Damage was confined to the garage, with minor smoke damage to the rest of the building.

Calgary police arson investigators, along with the CFD fire investigator are on scene to determine the cause.

The area is closed to traffic during the investigation.
