Footage released in the search for Calgary arson suspect

Calgary police have released video footage of a suspected arsonist after a May fire in northwest Calgary.

According to police, just after 3 a.m. on May 18, the Calgary Fire Department was called to the 1100 block of Varsity Estates Drive NW for reports of a fire.

The collection of CCTV footage showed a man setting fire to a back shed before fleeing the scene. The fire then spread to the garage and the house, police said.

Police said they believe the man had been car prowling in the area prior to setting the fire.

Investigators also believe the same person is involved in another fire in Varsity. It was set around 5 a.m. June 4 in the 1200 block of Varsity Estates Road NW.

Police obtained security footage of the suspect at a retail store in the area where the fires happened.
