Man charged after alleged sex assault on teen near southeast Calgary school

One man was charged after a suspected sex assault against a youth that police say happened near the victim’s southeast Calgary school.

On May 17 around 8:20 a.m., a 14-year-old girl was approached by an unknown male while walking to school in the 4800 block of 14 Avenue SE.

The man tried to talk to the girl and after a brief interaction, police said it’s believed the man made a physical advance on the girl and touched her inappropriately.

The victim tried to walk away from the suspect while he made advances. Once she arrived at school, she immediately told school officials, who contacted the police. The School Resource Officer was nearby. With patrol officers, they located and arrested the suspect.

Hussein Farhan, 27, was charged with one count of sex assault, sexual interference, intimidation and two counts of breach of a probation order.

“We commend the victim for her quick thinking during this alarming situation,” said Staff Sergeant Travis Baker of the Calgary Police Service General Investigation Unit.

“The details she provided to police aided in the suspect’s swift apprehension.”

Anyone with additional information is asked to call Calgary police at 403-266-1234.
