The 2022 Calgary Stampede has crowned Jenna Peters as this year’s Calgary Stampede Princess after an intensive three-week contest.
The crowning took place Wednesday evening. 2020/2021 Stampede Queen Kelcey Moore and Princess Janelle Mackenzie passed their royal status to Peters.
According to a recent news release, Peters shone in an extremely tight field of talented competitors as they showcased their skills in a series of events at Stampede Park.
These events included public speaking, horsemanship and personal interviews.
“It feels amazing. It’s been a long journey and I feel honoured to be recognized amongst this incredible group of women that I competed with,” Peters said in a recent news release.
Peters is noted as a skilled and accomplished young woman. She will share her passion for Calgary and the Calgary Stampede with the world.
Peters, 24, works in the energy industry. In her spare time, she enjoys competing in Cowboy Challenge events, trail riding, volleyball, hiking and fishing.
Stampede experience shaped who Peters is today
As a former Stampede Showrider, Peters said her past involvement in the Calgary Stampede helped shape her into the person she is today.
She said she is excited to inspire others through her role as the 2022 Stampede Princess, noting this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
“I’m very much looking forward to the months ahead,” she said.
Peters joins newly crowned First Nations Princess, Sikapinakii Low Horn, as the 2022 Stampede Royalty.
Together, Peters and Low Horn will attend hundreds of events as Stampede ambassadors. They will share the Stampede’s western heritage, cultures and community spirit locally and around the world.
Stampede Royalty benefit from the support, guidance, expert coaching and mentorship they receive in this role.
“We are excited to have Jenna Peters as our 2022 Calgary Stampede Princess. We look forward to watching her learn and grow while representing the Calgary Stampede,” said Chris Gerritsen, chair of the Calgary Stampede Royalty Committee.
The Calgary Stampede and the Royalty Committee said their thanks to Moore and Mackenzie for their ambassadorship throughout their reign.
“The Royalty Committee thanks all the competitors who stepped forward and worked hard to compete for the title, all our judges who gave their time and talent to adjudicate the competition, and our committee who are tireless in their commitment to this vital element of Stampede,” Gerritsen said.
The Calgary Stampede is set to run July 8 to 17, 2022.
