It’s a pretty light week at Calgary city hall, despite the fact that there’s a combined meeting of council Tuesday. It’s the only meeting, according to the city council schedule.
The agenda is pretty thin.
Still, there are a couple of things we’ll highlight that could warrant further discussion at city council this week.
Combined meeting of council
There are only three items on the consent agenda, and one of them is confidential.
Season patio changes
The one item that could potentially get pulled for further conversation or for someone to vote against, could be the seasonal patios changes for 2022. But, in our view, it will likely be approved on the consent agenda as it was approved unanimously at committee.
Provincial downtown cash
Also on the consent agenda is a recommendation from the Intergovernmental Affairs committee to use $4 million from the province to improve safety and support the activation of downtown Calgary spaces.
Public hearings
Surprisingly, there are only seven planning matters for council this month.
There are four in Ward 7, so we can expect many questions from area Coun. Terry Wong.
Still, the matters shouldn’t take much time.
Third readings
Councillors will also take care of a procedural matter of approving third reading of land use bylaw amendments related to two redevelopments in Marda Loop communities.
These developments had a robust conversation at the last combined meeting of council and are the subject of a petition campaign by the Marda Loop Communities Association.
Reports: City budget preps and Calgary Airport Authority
The City of Calgary approved its strategic direction for the budget at the last combined meeting and this item lays out the process to get there. It also encompasses values the city agreed to in 2021.
They will discuss and potentially approve the “Capital Infrastructure Investment Drivers” document below.

The Calgary Airport Authority will provide its annual presentation to city council, outlining performance and traffic over the past year. The presentation is included below.

And Finally…
A full meeting of Calgary city council will get the legal briefing first provided to the city’s Event Centre committee April 4. It’s unclear if there will be any further information to come out at this time.
City council will also get a briefing on non-compliance with the 2021 Calgary election campaign disclosures.
