Arson Unit investigating a fatal fire in Forest Lawn

One person has died, and the Calgary police Arson Unit is on the scene of a fire in Forest Lawn Tuesday night.

Around 10:10 p.m. Tuesday, Calgary firefighters were called to a single-storey fourplex in the 2600 block of 39 Street SE.

When crews arrived, smoke was coming from the main floor windows, and they discovered that people were inside. Firefighters entered the upper floor and made their way to the back bedroom.

Inside the room where the fire started, firefighters found an unresponsive female and removed her to the front yard area.Ā  Once outside, they began to treat the victim.

Crews searched the remainder of the home and found no one else. Meanwhile, EMS had arrived and continued resuscitation of the victim. She later died at the scene, fire officials said.

Fire officials said the fire was kept to the room of origin, with heat and smoke damage throughout.

Roughly 10 people were displaced by the fire and are working with Red Cross for temporary shelter.

Fire investigators, along with the Calgary police Arson Unit are on the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
