Man shot and killed in Sunalta: CPS

Calgary police are investigating a shooting death in the SW community of Sunalta.

It’s Calgary’s first homicide of 2022.

According to police, they were called to the 1200 block of 17 Street SW after reports of a man being shot.

When officers arrived in the area, they found a man in a back alley that had been shot. Paramedics and officers tried to keep the man alive, but he died on scene.

The victim has since been identified by the Chief Medical Examiner’s office as 36-year-old Eric Riendeau of Calgary. Calgary police believe this was a targeted attack.

Investigators are searching for a suspect vehicle described as a small black or dark grey SUV, that may have frequented the area.

There are road closures still in effect on 12 Avenue SW between 17 Street and 18 Street. An alley that’s parallel to 12 Avenue SW is also closed.

Calgary police have no more details at this time.
