New images released in memorial fire outside Calgary city hall

Calgary police continue to investigate an early August incident where a man appeared to try and light a memorial on fire.

New images of the alleged offender are being released by Calgary police.

Just before 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 3, City of Calgary Corporate Security observed a man via CCTV attempting to light the fire at a city hall memorial put up to honour residential school victims.

Calgary police and fire crews responded to the area, but security workers had put the fire out. Several objects at the scene were damaged.

Investigators released images at that time of the suspect. He is believed to have short hair and was wearing a black baseball hat, a black backpack, blue jeans, white-soled shoes and a long-sleeve plaid shirt.

New images are now being released with the hope of generating more public information.

Anyone with information is asked to call Calgary police at 403-266-1234.
