Charges laid against three people two years after Calgary double homicide

Calgary Police have charged three men in relation to a 2019 double homicide.

Calgary Police Service (CPS) responded to a shooting involving two men in the 2400 block of 37 Avenue NE on April 3, 2019.

Jasdeep Singh, 25 and Japneet Malhi, 22, had been found shot inside a vehicle. They died from their injuries later that day.

Police have laid charges against Amandeep Saggu, 30, Prabhjyot Bhatti, 22, and Jaskaran Sidhu, 21, all of Calgary, in relation to the shootings.

Police believe it was a targeted shooting carried out by two suspects. They later determined there was a third suspect.

Police believe the suspects waited over an hour for the victims. They drove by when the victims appeared, shooting and hitting them multiple times.

The charges are two counts of first-degree murder and one count of reckless discharge of a firearm.

“Over the last two years, we have worked to piece together an investigation in which two young people lost their lives in such a calculated manner,” said CPS Staff Sergeant Colin Chisholm, in a prepared release.

The trio will appear in court April 8.
