Suspect arrested and charged in Beltline shooting

A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a Beltline shooting that injured two – including an innocent victim.

On Oct. 8 around 10:30 p.m., police were called to an apartment building in the 200 block of 13 Avenue SW after reports of shots being fired.

Upon arrival, police learned that a man had entered one of the apartment units. Police said it’s believed the man was meeting a woman for a date.

According to police, once inside, the man is alleged to have locked the door and opened fire with a gun. One man in a bedroom was hit and injured.

A stray bullet went through the wall and into the next apartment. It hit a tenant in that apartment.

The suspect fled in an unknown direction before police arrived.

Both of the victims were in hospital in stable condition, police said.

Gabriel Chevry, 25, was located by Calgary police Oct. 10 and charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of discharging a firearm with intent.
