One person was killed and an innocent bystander was sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries after a southeast Calgary shooting early Saturday morning.
Calgary police are now looking to identify a suspect.
Police were called to 36 Street and 26 Avenue NE around 2:50 a.m. Saturday after reports of a shooting. Once they arrived, officers found a vehicle that had struck a CTrain barricade.
EMS took the gunshot victim from inside the vehicle to hospital where he later died, according to police.
Calgary police homicide investigators are now searching several scenes in southeast Calgary. They’ve since learned that the shooting happened outside the Portico Hookah Lounge, located at 1805 – 35 Street SE.
According to police, two male groups were involved in a fight inside the lounge prior to be asked to leave. Once outside, the dispute escalated and the shooting occurred, police said.
The victim initially left the scene with witnesses and was picked up by EMS after the collision.
The bystander, who was outside at the time of the shooting, was hit by a stray bullet, police said. He was taken to hospital where he’s in stable condition. The second victim in hospital is not connected with the two groups in the dispute, according to police.
Investigators have spoken with several witnesses.
They’ve identified one suspect, described as a Black man with short black hair, wearing a Gucci shoulder bag.
Residents and business owners in Forest Lawn are asked to check their property for damage that may be related to the shooting.
