UPDATE (Nov. 18, 2020): The Calgary police have now charged Joseph Johnson, 26, of Calgary with impaired operation causing death. He also faces a charge of impaired operation over 80 mg causing death.
He will appear in court Dec. 14, police said.
Calgary police continue to investigate a crash that killed a city cyclist outside a southeast golf course.
Police said alcohol was involved in the crash on McKenzie Drive SE, around 8 p.m. Saturday.
A 25-year-old man left the McKenzie Meadows Golf Club around 8 p.m. Aug. 8 and turned eastbound on to McKenzie Drive SE when he crossed over the solid yellow line into the westbound lane and hit a cyclist travelling eastbound, police said.
The cyclist, a man in his 60s, died on scene, according to police.
Police said the driver pulled over a short distance after hitting the cyclist and remained on scene. The driver was arrested at the scene for impaired driving causing death. Formal charges have not yet been laid as the investigation is ongoing, police said.
