Calgary Police are investigating three separate cases of potentially hate-motivated attacks against the gender and sexually diverse community over the long weekend.
The first incident occurred on July 31, 2020, when a man was assaulted by a group of men in the middle of the day near the intersection of 17 Avenue and 12 Street. The suspects allegedly attacked the victim with homophobic slurs then fled.
The second incident was of a drag king who was recording a video and was spat on by a male passerby. It happened around 1 p.m. Aug. 1, on the Rainbow Crosswalk at the intersection of Centre Street and Stephen Avenue Mall SW.
Video and CCTV footage are being investigated to help identify the suspect.
The third incident happened to a same-sex couple who was approached by two men and two women while walking near the intersection of 9 Street and Memorial Drive around 5:30 pm on Aug. 3. The suspects were riding e-scooters and it is believed that the two men attacked the couple.
A belt, rocks and a recycling bin were used as weapons. The police arrived but were not able to locate the suspects.

The two suspects are both described as being about 30-years-old, average height and build, with trim black beards and short black hair. One was wearing black-framed glasses, white polo shirt, dark pants, brown loafers, and white socks. The other was wearing a grey polo shirt with white collar and sleeves, grey pants, and white runners.
CPS released photos of the suspects in the third incident.
