Bridgeland fire claims 1; arson investigators on scene

One man is dead, and a woman was taken to hospital after a fire in a two-storey Bridgeland home Wednesday.

Fire crews were called to a home in the 100 block of 9A Street NE just before midnight, fire officials said.

A female resident was found at the rear of the home and told firefighters that two male residents hadn’t been accounted for. Firefighters began extinguishing the fire and the search for both missing men.

Once firefighters gained control of the fire, they located one man on the second floor of the home. He was immediately taken to hospital, where he later died, fire officials said.

The female resident had also been taken to hospital due to smoke inhalation.

The second male resident was found later, uninjured in the home’s rear garage.

According to fire officials, this home a familiar address to Calgary Police Service. 

The Calgary Fire Department, along with the CPS Arson Investigation Unit, are on scene to determine the cause of the fire.
