Calgary police want the driver of a vehicle to come forward after a three-year-old girl was seriously injured in an alleged hit-and-run in the city’s southeast.

Officers were called to a cul-de-sac in the 0-100 block of Deerfield Villas SE, around 10:40 a.m. June 22 after the girl was apparently hit, police said.
According to police, three-year-old Kayley was playing in a green space in the centre of the cul-de-sac. She crossed the green space towards her home when the crash occurred. Police said the driver did not remain on scene.
Staff Sgt. Colin Foster of the CPS Collision Reconstruction Unit said it’s possible that the driver didn’t see or know the girl was hit, or that the girl had tripped and hit her head on the pavement. He said the girl is short, under a metre tall, and may have been hidden from the driver’s view.
“This is one of the things that we want to do is try and find the vehicle, so we can prove or disprove whether or not the driver could see her,” Foster said Monday.
“The longer the driver stays away from us, the more likely we’re going to think that the driver did strike her. So we’d really want this driver to come forward and help us out.”
Vehicle and driver sought
Foster said the account came from the girl’s sister, who provided a description of the car and the driver. The vehicle is described as a very dark green or black sport utility-type vehicle. The driver is described a black male, with either close-cropped hair or who is bald.
They’ve canvassed local businesses in the area for CCTV footage from the time of the crash, Foster said. Calgary police are also looking for any residential video evidence.
Kayley suffered a fractured orbital and foot, Foster said. The foot injury is consistent with the vehicle contact and the facial injury more consistent with hitting the ground. But, until they speak to the driver or potential witnesses or see video, they won’t know.
