Weekly concerts are coming to a screen near you on June 11.
Alberta Music, the National Music Centre, CKUA, and Stagehand have come to together – with provincial support – to deliver an online concert series.
Alberta Spotlight will feature Alberta artists whose careers and finances have been affected by COVID-19. Many have had to cancel concerts and tours in light of social distancing requirements.
The funding for this series will go directly to the artists performing. Audiences are also able to tip artists during performances.
“Artists are part of the heart and soul of or province,” said Marc Carnes, CEO of CKUA, in a prepared statement
“This showcase of diverse Albertan music will help demonstrate just how vital they are to our community.”
Albertans will be treated to a variety of genres, from rap to folk music. Artists will live stream from their homes or studies
Nuela Charles, Reuben and the Dark, and Ariane Mahkrÿke Lemire will kick off the series on June 11 at 4:30 p.m. Audiences can tune in on the Alberta Music website.
Albertan artists can apply here to perform in future concerts.
“Music can bring us together as a community, and lift our spirits,” said Leela Aheer, Minister of Culture, Multiculturalism, and Status of Women, in a prepared statement.
“This is a prime opportunity for us to show our support for rising music stars in our province.”
