Calgary police seek three suspects in possible hate motivated crime against Chinese consulate

Calgary police are investigating after the city’s Chinese consulate was targeted by vandals for the second time in a week.

Three suspects dressed in black, wearing masks, sprayed vulgar, COVID-19-related phrases on the side of the Chinese consulate around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

This is the second time since last Tuesday that the building has been targeted with graffiti.

“Generally, we have not seen the same spike in hate crimes that some other areas have seen,” said Const. Collins, Hate Crimes Coordinator with the Calgary Police Service.

“But we are hearing from the Chinese community that they are concerned about growing hostility, so we are monitoring it closely.”

Calgary police is asking anyone with information to come forward by calling 403-266-1234.
