WATCH: Calgary musician’s song reminds citizens of the sacrifices made during coronavirus

One city musician hopes to bring Calgary some good vibes to the current coronavirus health crisis by producing an uplifting Calgary music video.

Joni Delaurier, a communications professional at the Calgary Emergency Management Agency used her musical talent to produce a song called One Day Soon.

Delaurier moonlights as a country/roots musician, having been nominated in the past for Single of the Year at the Canadian Country Music Awards, among other accolades.

This song was recorded in her home studio.

“I wanted to write something that would cheer me up, to remind my friends that one day we will get back to normal,” Delaurier said.

What does life after the coronavirus look like?

Delaurier said she hopes that Calgarians will start to imagine life after the pandemic.

Calgary Emergency Management Agency Chief Tom Sampson said when he first heard the song it resonated with him. cutting through the everyday melancholy.

“When I first heard this song, it really struck me,” said Sampson.

“In the flurry of my day-to-day work, pausing for a couple of minutes and taking in the song and imagery, had me realize just how much we’ve all been missing out on since this all started.”

Delaurier said it was a group effort. She couldn’t have made the video without the city’s Customer Service and Communications team.

Delaurier has posted the song on several streaming platforms. She will donate any proceeds to the United Way of Calgary’s COVID-19 Community Response fund.

After it was played in Thursday’s City of Calgary briefing, Mayor Naheed Nenshi said he couldn’t even look at Joni, who was in the room.

“Oh man. Every single time I get choked up. When I see that, it’s just such a great, beautiful view of what it means to live in this place,” said Mayor Nenshi

“Somehow she has found time to write a little song but it’s so Calgary. It is about how so many of us are feeling right now.”
