Man dead after fight outside southeast Calgary convenience store

Calgary police homicide units are investigating after a fight in a southeast neighbourhood left one person dead.

Around 10 p.m. Sunday, Calgary police officers were called to the 200 block of 52 Street SE for reports of a man in medical distress.

When officers arrived, they found a man with critical injuries. EMS pronounced the man dead at the scene.

After interviewing witnesses, Calgary police investigators believe the fight took place in the parking lot outside of a 7-Eleven in the 5300 block of 8 Avenue SE. Police are reviewing closed-circuit television recordings from the area to help identify a suspect.

Police don’t know what the motive was for the assault.

An autopsy will be done Monday, police said.
