Calgary man charged with aggravated assault of four-year-old stepchild

Calgary police have charged a man with the serious assault of a four-year-old child which took place one year ago.

The Calgary Police Child Abuse Unit launched an investigation in March 2018 after a child was brought to hospital by her mother.

She was initially deemed to be in critical, life-threatening condition, but was later upgraded to serious condition.

Doctors now believe she suffered potentially life-altering injuries.

Police say the child’s stepfather was the only adult at home with her when she suffered her injuries. His explanations for her injuries were not in line with medical evidence.

The stepfather is now facing one count of aggravated assault. He cannot be named, in order to protect the identity of the victim.
