WOMEN’S HOCKEY: SAIT drops to 1-6 with loss to NAIT in Edmonton

EDMONTON, ALTA., (Nov. 2, 2018) — A shaky first period sunk the SAIT Trojans women’s hockey team on Friday night.

Looking for their second-straight win, the Trojans instead gave up two first-period goals on their way to a 3-2 loss to the host NAIT Ooks in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game played in Edmonton.

“We didn’t have a very good first period,” admitted Trojans head coach, Kelsey Leifson. “We went away from the game plan and lost a lot of puck battles.”

SAIT falls to 1-6 on the year. NAIT improves to 5-2.

Scoring for the Ooks on the night were Moira Bryan and Carlin Boey in the first period. Julia Wing added the third late in the final period.

The Trojans replied with goals in the second period from Brittany MacDonald (2nd year, Calgary, Bachelor of Business Administration) and Paige Halderman (1st year, Calgary, Academic Upgrading).

The teams will finish their weekend set tomorrow night at 7pm at SAIT.

“Our second and third periods, we can’t be unhappy with the effort at all, “Leifson said. “We saw again what happens when we stray from the game plan, so hopefully we are able to adhere to it for 60 minutes tomorrow and split this weekend series.”
