WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: SAIT Trojans drop match against St. Mary’s

CALGARY, ALTA., (Oct. 19, 2018) — More shooting woes by the SAIT Trojans women’s basketball team resulted in another loss.

The Trojans shot just 26 per cent from the field, including 15 per cent from behind the three-point arc, as they fell 55-41 to the host St. Mary’s University Lightning in their Friday night Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game played at Glenmore Christian Academy.

SAIT falls to 1-2 on the season, while the Lightning jump to 2-1.

The struggles finding the bottom of the basket started early for the Trojans. They made good on just two of 14 shots to find themselves down 19-6 after the first 10 minutes of play.

That hole was just too deep to dig out of, as the rest of the game, the teams were pretty even with the Lightning edging the Trojans 36-35 in the final three quarters of play.

Hope Lewis (3rd year, Courtenay, BC, Graphic Communications and Print Technology) led the Trojans with 11 points.

Kennedy Burgess led the Lightning with 16 points.

The Trojans will try get back in the win column on Friday, Nov. 2 when they host the Ambrose University Lions in their home opener at 6pm inside SAIT Gymnasium.
